We are now accepting applications for YMCA Camp Santa Maria Staff! Our beautiful YMCA overnight camp is nestled in the Rocky Mountains near Grant, CO. We have 45 staff serving up to 135 campers, ages 6 to 16.

Pay Rate: $235-$245/week  Room and board are included for all staff. 

Want to spend your summer exploring the great outdoors? Climbing, hiking, biking and more? The Trip Leader  provides leadership, direction, and supervision to their campers in all aspects of the wilderness and tripping programs, and to the greater camp community. You will plan and facilitate camp activities in large and small groups in a rustic/wilderness setting. You will lead activities such as backpacking, rafting, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. Take the chance to re-create your ideal childhood in this role and provide an atmosphere of respect, acceptance, and caring for each child you meet, while showing each one as much individual attention as possible. You will help build and maintain a strong and supportive community and show campers the magic of camp as you assist in and lead off-camp wilderness trips and on-camp wilderness experiences.

Essential Functions

  • Supervises a group of up to 10 children in co-ed tent village.
  • Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
  • Adheres to program standards and expectations including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Maintains constructive and timely communication with supervisors. 

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children preferably in a resident camp setting. Previous experience with recreational wilderness trip programs preferred.
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living skills, wilderness survival skills, boating, camping, aquatics, rock climbing, recreational games, etc.
  • At least 21 years of age 
  • CPR, WFA, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.

Camp life can be challenging! You will be asked to function at 8200', in a variety of summer mountain weather ranging from snow to highs in the 90's with potential strong thunderstorms. On an average day you will walk 3-5 miles.
