Housing and meals at Camp Santa Maria plus great coworkers


POSITION SUMMARY- SUMMER 2020

The Utility Staff (UC) provides support for the camp by maintaining a clean, safe and enjoyable environment. From helping in the kitchen to assisting maintenance staff, from setting up a program space to turning off the lights at the end of the evening, you'll play a crucial role in keeping camp awesome.  You'll interact positively with our campers, staff members and parents helping us all create a strong, positive community at camp. The UC's will live in Tent Village, Cabin or Staff housing depending on space and responsibilities.  

SALARY  $250/week plus meals and housing.  This position can pay an hourly wage for applicants local to Bailey,Colorado.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists in the maintenance of the camp property/
  • Assists in the daily running of camp. This may include washing dishes, setting the dining hall, clean-up after meals, maintaining cleanliness in all areas and performing any maintenance that may be determined by the Y staff or the Dower employees.
  • Adheres to program standards and expectations including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Maintains positive relations with campers and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Maintains constructive and timely communication with supervisors.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High school graduate or equivalent.
  2. Previous experience working with children preferably in a resident camp setting.
  3. At least 18 years of age (The age minimum may be higher depending on state law and YMCA policies.)
  4. CPR, WFA, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  5. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.

Physical Demands

Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings. Camp life can be physically and emotionally challenging. You will be asked to function at 8200', in a variety of summer mountain weather ranging from snow to highs in the 90's with potential strong thunderstorms. On an average day you will walk 3-5 miles. Able to work in the fast paced environment of the kitchen and use equipment such as commercial dishwashers, ovens, and kitchen hand tools.
