We are looking for a multi-talented candidate who is ready to balance their passion for working with kids and their desire to broaden their skill sets and work experience in water safety and lifeguarding.

From August through May, the program generalist will spend 20 hours a week as a lifeguard at our YMCA in pools in Lafayette. You will become an advocate for the safety and wellbeing of our members and guests, and you will ensure that the Y's pools are friendly, welcoming environments for all to play, learn and build confidence in the water. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the safety of participants while they are in or near the pool or hot tub, general maintenance and cleanliness of the pool, chemical testing and general problem solving.

Along with your lifeguarding duties, you'll serve 20 hours per week as a role model to kids in our after-school programs. You'll become a mentor and guide as you help build a culture of fun and friendship. During the summer, program generalists work full-time in day camp leadership.

Successful candidates will be organized problem solvers with an enthusiasm for water safety, customer service, learning new stuff, building relationships and being role models for kids and adults alike. We are looking for self-motivated candidates with attention to detail, a strong work ethic and a passion for meeting deadlines. Bonus points if you are a trained swim instructor. Very successful candidates will show an unparalleled love for working at the Y and have the following credentials:

  • Be 21 years or older
  • Current ARC/YMCA Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR-PR Certifications
  • Provide 3 written references.

AND have at least one of the following

This position is full-time hourly with benefits: medical, dental, vision insurance options, paid vacation, sick and holiday time, free YMCA family membership, 50% reduced rates on YMCA of Boulder programs, and much more!

Salary Range: $15-16/hr DOE (rate of pay is consistent for all hours worked)
