We are looking for a multi-talented candidate who is ready to work with kids in structured and unstructured environments.

From August through May, the program generalist will spend 20 hours a week as a Child Watch attendant at our Arapahoe YMCA in Lafayette. You will use your enthusiasm for working with kids to make our Child Watch center mind-blowingly fun and parent pleasing. Yes, fun and safety is the name of the game as you provide care for children ages 6 weeks to 10 years while their parents attend YMCA programs at our center. Whether they are in your care for 20 minutes or 2 hours, you will work to make a positive difference in their lives and help them grow, thrive and celebrate their awesome little selves. You do this by leading small group activities, engaging in imaginative or active play and so much more. You also will be responsible for keeping the space clean, ensuring kids are safe and policies are adhered to, and interacting with parents.

 Along with your child watch duties, you'll serve 20 hours per week as a role model to kids in our after-school programs. You'll become a mentor and guide as you help build a culture of fun and friendship. During the summer, program generalists work full-time in day camp leadership.

Successful candidates will be engaged, energetic, mature problem solvers who can have a serious conversation with a 2-year-old about sharing, tell a hilarious joke to an 8-year-old and talk teething with a parent all within a 5-minute period. Candidates should have with an enthusiasm for chilren, customer service, learning new stuff, building relationships and being role models for kids and adults alike. Very successful candidates will show an unparalleled love for working at the Y and have the following credentials:

  • Be 21 years or older
  •  Supply documentation of current certification or become certified in CPR and First Aid
  • Provide 3 written references.

AND have at least one of the following

  • A four year degree in a related field


  • 48 semester hours of college credit AND 960 hours of experience in a licensed program since turning 18


  • 5460 hours of experience working directly with school-age children with a group of 4 or more unrelated school age children.

This position is full-time hourly with benefits: medical, dental, vision insurance options, paid vacation, sick and holiday time, free YMCA family membership, 50% reduced rates on YMCA of Northern Colorado programs, and much more!

Salary Range: $14-16/hr DOE (rate of pay is consistent for all hours worked)
