We are looking for a multi-talented candidate who is ready to balance their passion for working with kids and their desire to broaden their skill sets and work experience in the fitness, wellness and health industry.

From August through May, the program generalist will spend 20 hours a week as a wellness coach/personal trainer at one of our YMCA fitness centers. You will become a champion for the health, wellness and safety of our members while they work to reach their fitness goals. From showing members how to use equipment properly to sharing your wealth of health-focused knowledge, you will engage with members and create an encouraging, positive environment in which all people can thrive. In this position, you will also help maintain and clean equipment, help clients reach their goals by developing training programs, assist with general operations of the fitness area, respond to emergencies and ensure our fitness space is the best in town. If you are certified Personal trainer you can work with clients and earn a higher salary for training appointments within these 20 hours.  

Along with your wellness duties, you'll serve 20 hours per week as a role model to kids in our after-school programs. You'll become a mentor and guide as you help build a culture of fun and friendship. During the summer, program generalists work full-time in day camp leadership.

Successful candidates will be approachable, welcoming problem solvers with an enthusiasm for wellness, customer service, learning new stuff, building relationships and being role models for kids and adults alike. Very successful candidates will show an unparalleled love for working at the Y and have the following credentials: 

  • Be 21 years or older
  • Personal Training certification from Nationally Accredited Association preferred. If not currently certified, you may complete online YMCA/ACE- Personal Training Certification within 30 days of hire, First Aid, and CPR/AED Certifications
  • Provide 3 written references.

AND have at least one of the following

  • A four-year degree in a related field

OR

  • 48 semester hours of college credit AND 960 hours of experience in a licensed program since turning 18

OR

  • 5460 hours of experience working directly with school-age children with a group of 4 or more unrelated school age children.

Salary Range: $15-16/hr - higher wages will be paid for certified personal training appointments.
